Vera Thornton is a realistic artist whose passions for life and art are reflected in her canvases. Painting in all media, she captures sunlight, shade and the elements to intensify her subject and the mind of the viewer. Self stylized and self improved, she has taken classes at the Flint Institute of Art and workshops from well-known artists, she feels her work is evolving all the time. Today she lives and works in Fenton, Michigan, where she was born and raised. And has retired after 34 years as a letter carrier for the Fenton Post Office. Finding enjoyment in her surroundings, she never had to look any farther then her own backyard for inspiration through the small treasures of life, a cat in a flower box, a inquisitive Chickadee, squirrel or a well used horse collar. Painting the many moods of nature and animals she evokes an emotional response. “People should really see what they’re looking at. They miss so much. I want them to stop and experience the life that’s going on all around them, the lives that make up the cobweb that is my life. And indeed theirs. ‘ says the artist. Vera is a member and past President, Vice President and Secretary of the Fenton Artist Guild, member of the Milford Village Fine Arts Association and has won numerous awards as well as Fenton Artist Guild 1997 Artist of the Year and Fenton Artist Guild 1998 Artist of the Year.
